5th Rodeo [Action/Voice]

[Applejack is back from her mission! And as much as she's tuckered out, she's happy to be home and makes her rounds to her various friends to let them know she's back. And also to make sure that Winona hasn't gone too crazy.

It isn't until she's back home that night and settling down that realization dawns and she can't help but laugh.]

Tarnation. Ah missed my own birthday, goin' ta help out the Malnosso. That musta taken longer than Ah realized.

But that means it's gettin' close ta Nightmare Night! An' that means the pumpkins are comin' in. It's not much of a pumpkin patch, but if anyone's wantin' ta come on by the farm an' pick one up, they'll make mighty fine jack-o-lanterns. [Soft chuckle.] Or pies, if that's what you're aimin' for.

[Pause. That has just reminded her...]

Gol-ly. Already closin' in on time for makin' cider, too. Would anyone mind lendin' a hoof with makin' cider? Ah promise it's well worth the work.

What's a jack-o-lantern?

I'll help! I don't know how, though, if that's okay.

[Whoops. Sometimes she forgets that not all the worlds have the same customs.] It's somethin' ya can make by carvin' a pumpkin. Ya take out the inside an' carve a face inta it, then light it up so you can see the face at night. [Beat.] ...It sounds kinda funny, but it sure looks neat.

[She smiles, though. This is always her favorite time of year, between making cider, harvesting the apples, and Nightmare Night festivities (although Zap Apple season is a close second). It's exciting to get a chance to share it with others.]

An' Ah'd sure appreciate the help! Don't you worry 'bout not knowin' how; Ah can teach ya. Ah bet you'll be real good at it in no time.

[ Halloween and Nightmare Night are new concepts to Ikki. So far she's liked everything she's heard about, though. ] So it's like arts'n'crafts? Do you teach people how to make them, maybe?

Okay! I'm pretty sure grandpa wouldn't mind helping, either, but I'll ask him later. When'll you need the help?

Yep! It's just like arts'n'crafts. Ah can teach ya how ta make one'a them, too.

[Ahh, this is looking out to be a really fantastic fall season already.]

Ah should probably start on the apple cider soon, 'fore it starts gettin' too cold. Maybe we can make the first batch in a week or two? If my friends from back home help out, we should have enough to last inta next month. [Although not by much, if Ponyville cider trends hold out here.]

That'd be really super great!! Nightmare Night and Halloween are sort of the same thing, right? I only learned about both of them realllly recently!

That works for me! As long as school hasn't started, I'm pretty much free all the afternoons!

[Head tilt. She totally missed the announcements a little ways back.] Halloween? Never heard of it. But if folks get dressed up an' go trick-or-treatin', then it'd sure be about the same.

[Oops, totally slipped her mind until now...]

That's what Buffy said it is! You dress up and get candy! And also there are caramel apples!

Yup, sounds like this Halloween an' Nightmare Night are just about the same, then. My family even usually makes the caramel apples.

[ IT'S BECAUSE WHO DOESN'T WANT TO BE FRIENDS WITH A TALKING PONY when you are a seven year old little girl. ]

Really?! I've been looking for someone who knows how to make them to show me how!!

[Careful, Ikki, you might end up with a surrogate big sister. Who is also a pony.]

Well, you're talkin' ta the right pony, then! The Apple family recipe's better'n any other.

Could you maybe teach me after we make cider sometime?

Sure thing, sugarcube! It'll be fun! We can even make some extra for your grandpa, too, if he likes 'em.

Apples are his favourite fruit! And mine, too!

Perfect! Then we can make a whole bunch'a caramel apples so there's enough for him an' your friends. They always taste even better when ya share 'em.

I agree!! Although I've never had a caramel apple, I think that's true for everyyyyyyyything. I can teach you to make some kinda air nomad treat after, in exchange!!

[Odd but true: "air nomad" just sounds like something the pegasi would do, and so it immediately is accepted into AJ's realm of imagination. Although she immediately pictures hue-mans with cloud cities. Which brings her to her question.]

But Ah didn't know you hue-mans could live in the clouds. Are ya nomads 'cause ya can come down ta the land, too?

[ Applejack, if only you knew how much Ikki wishes she could live in the clouds. ]

Nooooooope. It's because - well, actually, I'm not sure. It's just what we're called! But we're air 'cause our people know how to airbend. It's like - [ ...yeah hold on she'll just swap to video.

[Hey, she's an Earth pony. Anything being able to manage anything like that is pretty impressive to her. Especially since it seems like it's rather different from Twilight or Rarity's usual brand of magic.]

So it's kinda like magic! Well, ain't that somethin'... kinda like a teeny tornado, ain't it?

Kinda! At least, from what people say 'bout magic! I can do more with it, but that's one of my favourites! My grandpa taught me it.

Sure is a neat trick! Ah can see why it'd be your favorite.

[AJ has a feeling she would definitely like this grandpa of hers. Of course, family is always her soft spot, but still...]

Sounds like your grandpa must have all kindsa nifty stories an' tricks up his sleeves, huh?

[ Aang and AJ would totally get along. He's like a less excitable Ikki! ]

Yeah, he does! It comes with being the Avatar but also I think it's an air nomad thing!

[Aaand she's lost again. But she's still smiling.]

Sounds like you've got yourself a grandpa you can be proud as a peacock of. What's "the Avatar" mean, though?

I do!!! And that's someone who can airbend like me, but can also firebend and waterbend and earthbend!

[Wow. That's. A lot of different kinds of magic, if they all equate back to the same sort of mini-tornado trick from before. Applejack blows out an impressed whistle.]

That must be somethin' ta see. We don't get many folks back home who can manage that many kindsa magic.

Each person can only do one thing though!
