Excuse me, AppleJack?

Another pony, Rainbow Dash, directed me to speak with you. I'm told you have been working some of the farmland out beyond the edge of the village. I was wondering what you've been working on. I'm planning on trying to plant some short-growth plants, to get the land ready for planting in the spring.

Well, you're talkin' ta the right pony, alright. Ah've been tryin' ta get the farm out here up an' runnin' like back home, but it's still got a li'l ways ta go.

[She's happy to hear someone else is interested in farming, though, so she beams.]

As for what Ah've been workin' on, Ah've planted some apple trees an' a few other fruit trees - those're what we specialize in back home. But Ah also planted some corn, rhubarb, pumpkins, cucumbers, sweet potatoes, squash, herbs, an' a few different kinds'a berries.

[Okay that list got longer than she realized. Sheepish laugh.] There's still plenty of room ta work with, though! Ah'd be happy ta share if ya wanted ta grow some stuff, too.

Well, I was thinking of growing things like squash and pumpkins, since its late in the growing season, but there is quite a lot of land. I've done some reading on the climate, and it should be easy. I just don't want the land to go fallow over the winter.

Next spring, however, how would you feel about helping with something a bit more intensive, like grains?

[Naturally, Luke's very interested in farming. He grew up on a farm. And built a few on Dathomir and Yavin as well]

It's real nice t'meetya, Luke. ["Skywalker" sounds like a pegasus name to her, and somehow that makes it easier to remember, especially since Rainbow Dash was the one to refer him to her.]

An' yeah, grains would be real good! It feels kinda weird not havin' fields of wheat growin'. Ah'd be more'n happy ta help ya with it.

Wonderful. Next spring then, we can get that started. For now, we should focus on keeping the land fertile.

Do you have seeds, or any sort of farm tools? I've got some, but I think extras would be really handy.

[Next spring sounds like a long way away, but she's already been here for over half a year. Maybe the time will fly. She hopes it does, because this sounds like a blast.]

Ah've got plenty'a both. The farm had some tools before Ah got here, but Ah've been addin' to what it's got ever since. An' there's a whole stockpile of seeds, but bringin' in more won't hurt anythin'.

Good, good, that means we're off to a great start.

Is there anything funny you've seen with the soil? Or the land itself? Lots of roots, or bugs?

The roots aren't too bad unless ya start gettin' closer ta the woods, but that's somethin' ya can expect. The soil itself ain't been taken care off too well, though. It's got a lotta patches needin' fertilizin' before it'll all be good for growin' just anythin'. Maybe some soy beans once the weather cools off a bit.

[She pauses thoughtfully, trying to think of any out-of-the-ordinary bugs.] The bugs ain't too bad either, though. Just your usual garden pests, but not too many of 'em.

Well, I've enlisted the help of Mr. Giovanni, a Pokemon trainer with several Earth Pokemon. He'll help till up the soil and make it useable again, I think. And I've got an idea that I'm going to keep to myself to help it along as well.

[Because nothing says fertilizer like Bantha Poodoo]

How about irrigation? Have you done much with that?

[She figures "Earth Pokemon" is similar to "Earth ponies", somehow, and just nods along with the mention of Giovanni. Makes sense to her.]

Ah've gotten some ditches dug, but Ah could definitely use some help gettin' a better system goin'.

I think that can be arranged easily enough. There's enough scrap metal to hammer out tubing, and if the Pokemon can clear a path, then it'll be simple.

We could, if we're lucky, possibly even grow some wild rice.

Shucks, Ah've never grown wild rice before. But you could teach me, right? Never hurts ta learn a few new tricks.

I think so. If not, we'll figure it out together.
